There's basically no reason for distortion to exist here outside of making everything louder.Ī more obscure example, but Perturbator's The Uncanny Valley (he did some stuff for the Hotline Miami soundtrack) is one of the loudest non-harsh noise albums ever made, and is significantly louder than Death Magnetic or Californication (though not as loud as Raw Power I think), but it also doesn't sound quite as bad as them because the album is super dense and uses some heavily distorted synths. It basically sounds like static during any bass drum hits. One that I definitely do not like that doesn't get talked about enough is Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (and everything else he's done since), Monster probably being the worst. I might as well give a mention to the Iggy Pop remaster of Raw Power which is probably has the most obvious distortion of any rock album ever made (peaking with Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell) but to be honest, I kind of like it. In just one comment and in the main post, the most obvious cases have been stated.
